Watkinsville - Marjorie H. Hewell, 81, passed away after a lengthy illness at her home on Flat Rock Road, August 22, 2008.
Born in Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late Earnest Hansford Sr. and Agnes Maxey Hansford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred C. Hewell; son, Kenneth D. Hewell; brother, Bubber Hansford; sisters, Dot Hayes and Rebecca Eidson. Mrs. Hewell retired from C & S Bank after 35 years, where she was in charge of the Safe Deposit Vault. She was a member of Watkinsville First Christian Church, where she had served as a Deaconess, Treasurer, member of the Christian Women's Fellowship and was a member of the Martha Harris Sunday School Class. She was a life time member of the Flat Rock Homemakers Club. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her caretakers.
Survivors include her children and their spouses: Elaine H. (Wayne) McTyre, Tommy (Junie) Hewell, Angie (Jeff) Stockton, all of Watkinsville; brothers: Benjamin (Margaret) Hansford and Homer (Susan) Hansford, both of Watkinsville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mattie Lou Lowe.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Lord & Stephens West Chapel with Revs. Doug Ivey and Jim Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Johnson United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Gunter, David Conine, Roger Smith, Robert Venable, Leo Baker and Bob Bargfrede. Visitation will be held tonight from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Watkinsville First Christian Church.
