Marjorie Lois (Malcom) Cobb

October 31, 1928 — September 11, 2011

Marjorie Lois Malcom Cobb died Sunday, September 11, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Lois Smith Malcom and the late Weyman Luck Malcom. She was born October 31, 1928 and grew up in the Eastville Community of Oconee County. She graduated from Athens High School in 1945 and from the University of Georgia with a degree in Home Economics in 1949.
On September 8, 1950 she married her high school sweetheart, Leonard Fretwell Cobb.
Mrs. Cobb worked for the University of Georgia in several capacities during her early career as County Extension Home Economist in Columbia County, Georgia, as food service director at Snelling Dining Hall and later for the UGA Athletic Ticket Office. She will best be remembered as a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Cobb was a faithful member of Athens First United Methodist Church as long as she was able.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Weyman Malcom and her husband, Leonard F. Cobb in 2008.
She is survived by three daughters and five granddaughters, Susan Cobb Branan (Dr. W. C.) of Washington, GA; Melanie Cobb Parsons (Joe) of Macon, GA: Len Cobb Ellerbee (Tommy) of Watkinsville; granddaughters as Ashley Branan Sheffield (Brad), Meredith Len Parsons, Courtney Susan Parsons, Lauren Anne Ellerbee and Morgan Elizabeth Ellerbee. She is also survived by two brothers, Kenneth L. Malcom (Kaye) and Charles W. Malcom (Martha) of Bogart, as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Mike Malcom, Mitch Malcom, Gary Travis, Glenn Cobb, Brad Sheffield and Josh Goodman.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Athens First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Monday, September 12 from 7:00 until 9:00 pm at Lord and Stephens, WEST. Memorial contributions may be made to Athens First United Methodist Church, Union Christian Church of Watkinsville or to the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at UGA.
The family wishes to thank Washington Manor Personal Care Home, Arbor Terrace and Odyssey Hospice of Athens for their care and support.
