Mariellen Cornell

Mariellen Cornell went to be with the Lord on October 18, 2022 at the age of 95. She passed away at Highland Hills of Athens, GA where she was loved by the staff and chaplain. Mary had formerly resided in Stockbridge and was a member of Community Bible Church. She was a volunteer at Helping In His Name Food Pantry for 20 years. Mary was born in the countryside of Terre Haute, IN and graduated from Otter Creek High School. She married William Bryant Cornell on July 8, 1947. He preceded her in death on November 4, 1993. Mary was the mother of David, Ted, Lynn and Scott. Scott passed away at the age of four years in 1961. She was grandmother to Shawn, Erin, Ben, Leah and Allie and great-grandmother to Rhiannon, Jeff, John, Robbie, Drew, Cole, Nolan, Wyatt, Greta and Peter.

Mary is remembered by her loved ones for her warm smile, infectious laugh, and amazing memory of family history. She had a generous spirit and lovingly shared her time with others, making friends everywhere she went. Mary loved her family, animals, and God. She especially loved her cats Abby and Essie and her dog Buddy. Mary was a voracious reader and loved mystery novels, especially those written by cats. She was a strong supporter of her church and numerous humane society organizations. Mary helped raise her numerous grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to attend their sporting or school events or play Monopoly or Scrabble with them. Mary will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 26, at the Walden Clubhouse, 930 Jodeco Road in Stockbridge, GA 30281 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that guests bring a donation of cat food in honor of Mariellen, a great animal lover.
