Marie Thomson

Marie Bontempo Thomson, 81, of Athens passed away on January 23, 2014. Mrs. Thomson was born in Summit, New Jersey to Emile and Lena Statelles Bontempo. She was a graduate of Berkeley College and was employed with the Foreign Agricultural Service in Washington D.C. She was also employed with Bell Labs in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey and was a member of the Christian Women's Club of Athens. Mrs. Thomson will always be remembered for her warm and engaging manner and her smile that welcomed all.
Mrs. Thomson is preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband, James Emslie Thomson; and brother, Emil Bontempo. She is survived by her children, Steven James Thomson, David Scott Thomson (Anne) and Carol Statella-Harris (Reid); two sisters, Phyllis Saracen, of Watchung, New Jersey, and Sherill Boegershausen (Paul), of Millburn, New Jersey; two grandchildren Scott Gordon Thomson, and Jennifer Anne Thomson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 6 until 8 PM. Funeral services will be held in the Athens First United Methodist Church Chapel on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 2:30 PM with Rev. Martha Aenchbacher officiating. Interment will be held at Oconee Memorial Park.
