Maria Elvira Marrero (Aba), 94, wife of the late Enrique Emilio Marrero, died on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
Born in Matanzas, Cuba, she was the daughter of the late Rosendo Vallin and Maria Xirau. In 1959, Maria left Cuba and lived in Spain, New York and Miami, FL before moving to Oconee County in 2018. As an immigrant, she did everything she could to give her children what they needed; and instilled hard work ethics to her children by example. She was Roman Catholic and a business assistant for an engineering firm.
Survivors include her two children: Maria (George) Xirau of Statham, GA and Henry (Vickie) Marrero of Adairsville, GA; sister: Ester Andux; eight grandchildren: Michael (Jennifer) Blanchard, Violet (Kelleen) Blanchard, Chris (Fany) Xirau, Alyce Atkins, Angela (Jeremy) Lively, Edward (Keri) Xirau, Gregory Xirau and Eric (Danielle) Xirau; twelve great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
A memorial mass celebrating Maria’s life will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Athens, GA. There will be a reception following the mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
