Marguerite Christine Shurling

Marguerite Christine Shurling, went home to be with her Lord and Savior with her family by her side on July 31, 2012 at her home in Athens.

Christine was born on September 20, 1926 in Lexington, Georgia to Irvin and Lilla Thaxton. She graduated from Meson Academy High School in 1943. She married Frank Shurling on June 4, 1948. Christine devoted her life to her family and loved cooking and preserving vegetables from her garden and was always willing to share her recipes and vegetables with family and friends. Frank and Christine enjoyed traveling together and spending time at their lake house. She was a member of East Athens Baptist Church. "That Ma" was truly loved and will be missed by many.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Harley Frank Shurling; her children and their spouses: Paula and John McCormick formerly of Brooklet, Georgia, Pam and B.H. Anderson of Screven County, Georgia, Frank and Cheri Shurling of Macon, Georgia; brother: Howard Thaxton of Lexington, Georgia; sisters: Mary Adkins of New Baden, Texas, Joyce Mosley of Athens, Georgia; grandchildren and their spouses: John and Holly McCormick, Jason and Alison McCormick, Josh McCormick and Amber Franks, Gus and Lesley McCormick, Suzanne Anderson, Ben Anderson, Christie and Robbie Sovie, Nick Shurling, Rawson Ridley, Ryan Ridley and Harley Anne Shurling and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 3, 2012 at 11:00AM at East Athens Baptist Church with Rev. George Ornsby officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Burial is to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at the funeral home Thursday, August 2, 2012.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to East Athens Baptist Church Youth and Children's Ministries.
