Athens - Margot Louise Spencer, late a resident of St. Mary's Highland Hills Retirement Community, passed away on February 9, 2007. Mrs. Spencer was born on March 15, 1915, in Zurich, Switzerland, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S.B. Schmuklerski. She emigrated to New York as a young woman and married Douglas William Spencer of Maryland, New York in 1940. The Spencers moved to Fort Myers Beach, Florida in 1954, where Mr. Spencer was a home builder and Mrs. Spencer was a homemaker. Mrs. Spencer particularly enjoyed days on the beach and the company of other beach residents who had also come from Europe.
After Mr. Spencer died in 1983, Mrs. Spencer continued to make her home in Fort Myers until she moved to Athens in 2000 to be nearer to her family. Mrs. Spencer is survived by her daughter, Jean Spencer Ellington, and her son-in-law, C. Ronald Ellington, of Athens, two grandchildren, Gregory Spencer Ellington of Columbus, Georgia, and Alicia Nicole Ellington of Charlottesville, Virginia, and two great grandchildren.
Internment will be in the Maryland Cemetery in Maryland, New York.
