Athens - Margaret R. Wagener, died October 22, 2006.
Born April 11, 1932 in Plains, GA, She grew up in Americus, GA and moved to Athens in 1964. She earned both her bachelorís and masterís degrees, and T6 from the University of GA. A devoted teacher throughout her life, she taught English, Gifted Studies, Career Planning and Special Education. Upon retirement, she became an avid gardener and volunteered with the State Botanical Garden. She was also the co-host of a radio show on gardening, and a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church since 1964.
Surviving are her sons, Nick Wagener, of Covington GA, Andy Wagener, of Athens; daughters, Peggy McKillip and husband David, Ann W. Parker and husband Reverend Sean; brothers, Dr. Claude Rhyne, Dan Rhyne and wife Betty; sister, Mary Downes and husband Ken; six grandchildren, Lindsey, Jonathan, Daniel, Graham, Elizabeth and John.
Family will be receiving friends at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 800 Westlake Dr., Athens, from 7-8 p.m., Friday, October 27. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with the Reverend David Hart and the Reverend Sean Parker, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the State Botanical Garden of GA.
