Margaret Lucille "Peg" Thomas, a long time resident of Athens, Georgia, died peacefully at St Mary's Hospice House on Tuesday the 15th of March, 2016. Margaret "Peg" Thomas was the devoted wife of Ralph W Thomas, Jr, who pre-deceased her in 2009 after 56 years of marriage. Peg was a member of St Joseph's Catholic Church in Athens for 45 years.
Born 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pa to Albert and Gertrude Zahringer, Peg was one of eight children and grew up in the East Liberty area of Pittsburgh. She attended Catholic grade school and St. Lawrence High School.
In 1952, Peg married Ralph "Bud" Thomas and they moved to Saint Louis, Missouri where Bud was employed by the Absorbent Cotton Company. While living in St. Louis, Peg had two children, Andrew Thomas and Laura Thomas.
After moving to Athens, Georgia in 1971, Peg was employed by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service where she served for 18 years. Peg enjoyed gardening, vacationing with extended family, and cleaning the house every day like the Pope was due for a visit. Peg and Bud also enjoyed UGA football, became season ticket holders, and tailgated their way to a national championship. Go Dawgs.
Peg is predeceased by her siblings Robert, Dorothy, Helen, Mary Jane, James, and Alice and is survived by sister Ann Louise, son Andrew and daughter Laura.
Arrangements are Friday, March 18, 2016 at 7PM at Lord & Stephens West Chapel with the family receiving friends from 6 until 7 prior to the service. Peg will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery with her husband.
