Margaret Eugenia Foster

Margaret Eugenia Foster died Sunday, January 28, 2018.
A native of Bishop Georgia, Miss Foster was born July 13, 1927 to Ethel Newton Cox Foster and James Samuel Foster. She was the sixth of seven children.
She was educated in the Bishop grade school and junior high school systems. After graduating from Watkinsville High School in Oconee county in 1954 she attended Young Harris College 1945 thru 1946. While studying at Young Harris she was a member of Susan B. Sorority, captain of softball team and a student government board member. Margaret returned to Bishop and went to work in Athens for the W. A. Capps Jewelry Company. Her Brother Joe Foster purchased the jewelry store upon Mrs. Capps death in 1957. The store name was changed to Foster's Jewelers and Margaret continued working there for 43 years. In retirement she continued to work at Foster's part-time until the store closed in 2009. Margaret was the face of Foster's Jewelers, always at the back counter to greet every customer with a smile and a warm welcome. Everyone asked for Margaret to repair their Rolex, order a wedding present, order a graduation present, get engraving done, and many years ago to reserve the silver service and punch bowl for wedding receptions.
Margaret was a life long member of the Bishop United Methodist Church. She served the Athens Elberton District Methodist Church Youth Fellowship in numerous ways including being President. She was a member of the YWCO for 50 years, serving on the board of directors for two terms. She was also a member of the Entre Nous Club, a branch of the YWCO, serving as president four times.
Margaret joined the OES, (Order of the Eastern Star) in September 27, 1948 and remained a faithful member until her death. She was elected Associate Conductress in 1953, Associate Matron in 1954 and Worthy Matron in 1955. She also served the chapter as Ruth, Treasurer and Marshall. She served as Grand Representative of South Carolina from 1959 thru 1961. She was appointed District Grand Deputy in 1961. She served the chapter as Marshall and state of Georgia as Grand Marshall of Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her six brothers and sisters; James Marvin Foster, Jo Cox Foster, Mary Louise Foster, Fred Hill Foster, Charlie Heath Foster, George Washington Foster and a niece Laurie Foster-Peterson.
She is survived by six nieces and nephews. Jane Foster McGown, Joan Foster Menser, Mary Lillie Watson, Don Foster, David Foster and Kevin Foster. Eleven great-nieces and great-nephews. Todd Foster McGown Elihu, Evan H McGown, Monica Menser, M. Mills Menser,Jr, Daniel Foster Chamberlin, James Marshall Foster, Ashley Foster, Benjamin Foster, Anna Mary Margaret Foster, Dakota Peterson and Kelly Peterson.
Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 4, 2018, at the Mt Vernon Masonic Lodge, 365 Research Drive, Athens, Ga.
