Margaret Semones Burton, 130 Chestnut Lane, died June 15, 2006.
A native of Brantley, AL, she was the daughter of the late Hollis Clayton and Margaret Emma Fenn. She was a graduate of Brantley High School and Judson College in AL. Mrs. Burton had been a resident of Athens since 1953. She was formerly active in local civic organizations including League of Women Voters and Newcomers Club. She served as president of the Athens Elks Aidmore Auxiliary and also president of the Rose and Dahlia Club and Secretary of the Glenwood Garden Club. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Burton was employed at the University of Georgia, serving as Graduate Secretary in the Sociology Department prior to her retirement in the 1980's.
Survivors include her husband, Robert C. Burton; 3 step children, John Mark Burton of Atlanta; Robbie Burton of Athens and Dr. Patricia Burton and her husband, Steve Pollard of Kirksville, Missouri. Also surviving is a granddaughter, Emily Pollard of Kirksville several nieces and a number of cousins.
Mrs. Burton was a body donor to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. Robert Bohler and Rev. Charlie Cook officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
