Mamie (Morris) Benton

Mamie Morris Benton, 95, of Colbert, died Thursday, March 22, 2012. A native of Madison County, she was the daughter of the late John Zed Morris and Evie Rowe Morris and the widow of H. Harold Benton, who died in 1998. She joined Colbert Baptist Church at age 13 and lived most of her life in Colbert except for a time living in Atlanta and working as a hair stylist there. Mrs. Benton was preceded in death by three sisters, Lillie Ree James, Ora Lee Morris, and Alma Patton and by three brothers, Charlie Morris, Lloyd Morris, and Troy Morris.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Janice Lunsford of Colbert and Patricia and James Perry of Asheville, NC, and two grandchildren, David Lunsford of Colbert and Ellen Perry of Weaverville, NC.
The funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2012 a 2:00 PM at Colbert First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church. Rev. Brad Wilson will officiate, and interment will be at Colbert Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Colbert First Baptist Church Building Fund.
