Lynn Anne Hawley Bryant died February 13, 2015, peacefully at her home in Athens, Georgia. Lynn was born in Columbus, Ohio June 19, 1946 and was the daughter of Chester G. Hawley and the late Lorena Caldwell Hawley. She attended Upper Arlington High School and Vanderbilt University. She then went on to the University of Georgia, obtaining a BA in French, MA degree in Comparative Literature, and an MBA degree from the Terry College of Business. While a student, she was initiated into the oldest of all American honor societies, Phi Beta Kappa. During this time, Lynn also taught French at Athens Academy and received the school's first Teacher of the Year award.
In addition to being a student at UGA, Lynn taught English and Comparative Literature as well as business courses. She left the university in 1986 to become a principal in the start-up business Athens Research and Technology, an international life sciences company, where she worked until her death. Lynn joined the company at its inception as Business Director, and as the business grew under her leadership, she became the CEO. The company was given the Small Business of the Year award by the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce in 2008 and was recognized as a Georgia Bulldog 100 Business in 2013.
Lynn was active in many civic and community organizations. She was president of the Athens Junior Assembly the year it transitioned to the Athens Junior League. She was also president of Alps Road School PTA and a member of Junior Ladies Garden Club.
Lynn lived in Aix-en-Provence as an undergraduate and over the years, traveled with her family to many countries. Her love of France and its people was a constant in her life.
Lynn leaves behind her husband, Corbett Chandler, her son Clay W. Bryant (Daniela), grandsons Clay and Marco, her daughter Jennifer B. Hanna (Kevin) and grandson Conor, her brothers Dr. Philip C. Hawley and Brent C. Hawley, many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, which cannot be used in the Church in Lent, donations in Lynn's memory may be made to: St. Stephen's Anglican Catholic Church, c/o St. Fiacre's (Patron Saint of Gardeners) Guild; the Foundation for Excellence in Public Schools, athensffe.org; The Junior League Endowment, 634 Prince Ave. 30601.
Visitation will take place in the home at 215 West Rutherford Street on Friday, Feb. 27 from 4:00 until 7:00 with parking available at the church on the corner of West Rutherford and Lumpkin Streets. The funeral will take place at Saint Stephen's Anglican Catholic Church at 800
Timothy Road on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 11:00 AM, the burial in the Churchyard, and ending with the reception in the Church hall.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Philip C. Hawley, Brent C. Hawley, Austin Hawley and Miles Hawley.
