Lula Mae (Ward) Oettmeier, age 92, of Plantation, FL passed away on August 9, 2021. The daughter of the late Harvie Lee Ward and Julia (Sorrow) Ward, Lula was born in Athens, GA and lived her childhood in the Athens and Atlanta areas. After her marriage to Bert W. Oettmeier, Sr. in 1951, they moved to San Antonio, TX, while he served his country in the U.S. Air Force. After leaving Texas, they resided in several towns in Georgia and Florida, and in Kansas City. They moved to Plantation, FL in 1971 where Lula has lived for the past 50 years. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bert W. Oettmeier Sr., and her brother Harvie “Lee” Ward, Jr. of Hull, GA. She is survived by her sons Bert W. Oettmeier, Jr. and William H. Oettmeier, 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Her God and her religion were very important to her as evidenced by her years of dedication and service to her church. She was a very nurturing mother and devoted wife. What she loved most in life was spending time with her family, both immediate and distant.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Lord and Stephens, East Chapel at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Hull Baptist Church Cemetery.
