Lucy Wilson Fambrough

January 13, 1936 — January 16, 2022

Lucy Wilson Fambrough, 86, passed away peacefully in her home, Sunday, January 16, 2022. A resident of Oconee County, GA, Lucy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Jack Fambrough. She was the daughter and last surviving child of the late Ezra and May Mize Wilson. Lucy’s eleven siblings who preceded her in death were her brothers; James, Swayne, Charles, Jack, Fred, and Bob Wilson and sisters; Laura Lucile Wilson, Helen Larrimore, Margaret Patrone, Sarah Garrett, and Betty Wilkes.

Lucy attended Rabun Gap - Nacoochee School before moving to Oconee County her senior year to attend Oconee County High School, a decision that soon led her to meet the love of her life, Jack, at Antioch’s Harvest Sale held at Rose Hill School. During their marriage Jack and Lucy were active members of Antioch Christian Church where fond memories of their life together included so many individuals from the church. One of their fondest memories was traveling with church members to the Holy Land.

Lucy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed many activities from reading, working in her yard, sewing, dancing with Jack, family reunions, traveling - especially to the mountains, teaching Sunday School, Precept studies, community service organizations and projects, co-owning a dress shop with her sister Betty Wilkes (Suburban Shop, downtown Watkinsville), working at Oconee State Bank, caregiving to aging family members, and so much more. Lucy met each season and challenge of life with grace, respect for others, and the understanding of her true identity in Christ. From her youth, Lucy knew her true strength came from God - “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

Lucy is survived by her children; Nan Dean, Kay (Fletcher) Law, Patti (Jeff) Faulkner and Jim (Marcie) Fambrough; grandchildren Michael (Jennifer) Dean, Graham (Mary Kathryn) Law, Nick Faulkner, Claxton Faulkner (fiancé Leighton Broome), Chloe Fambrough, and Olivia Fambrough; three great grandchildren, Christian (Natalee) Dean, Abigail Grace Dean, Hattie Oree Law; one great, great grandchild Alaina Dean, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to home caregiver Glenda Robinson, the St Mary’s Hospice staff and the Antioch Christian Church family for the prayers, cards, and support.

A celebration of Lucy’s life will be held on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Antioch Christian Church (Watkinsville, GA) with the Rev. Richard Hoard officiating.
