Athens, GA - Lt. Col. Edward J. Fox, 87, died November 19, 2014.
Born in Des Moines, Iowa, he is the son of the late Colonel Edward Fox and Jessie Lambert Fox.
Lt. Col. Fox is a 1950 graduate of West Point Military Academy. During his military career, his overseas assignments included Orleans France, Kitzingen Germany, Stuttgart Germany, Korea, Panama and Puerto Rico. He served during the Vietnam conflict. Stateside assignments included DePaul University, Chicago, IL, Ft. Benning, GA, Ft. Jackson, SC, Ft. Campbell, KY, Ft. Bragg, NC and Ft. Gordon, GA. After retiring from the Army, Lt. Col. Fox was the PMS at Clarke Central High School ROTC for 17 years. He was a member of Athens VFW and was past president of the Athens Area Retired Officers Association.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Elizabeth Fox; children, Edward J. Fox, Jr. of Athens, George Murray Fox (Ginger) of Bishop, Robert Walter Fox (Sue) of Davenport, Iowa, Patricia Luisa Smith (Brian) of Bogart, Susan Elizabeth Kemp (Alan) of Athens, Lisa Marie Schwartz of Watkinsville and Cynthia Jay Murphy (Nathan) of Watkinsville; 11 grandchildren, Christine, Murray, Robert, Amy, Kate, Will, Anna, Stevie, Zach, Reagan, and Nate.
The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens, WEST, Sunday, November 23, 2014 beginning at 1:00 PM. Memorial services will follow in the chapel at 2:00 PM with Rev. Robert Murphy officiating. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
