Winterville GA - Loyd D. Culbertson, 93, of Winterville, died Monday, May 9, 2011, peacefully at Quiet Oaks Nursing home. Mr. Culbertson was the son of the late W.J. Culbertson (Preacher Culbertson) and Willie Mae Tucker. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Gladys Vera Trusty Culbertson. Mr. Culbertson is a 1939 graduate of Winterville High School. After high school he attended some classes at UGA and graduated from a vocational school in Clarkesville GA with a degree in machine shop. He also served in the Navy and was stationed out in the Pacific on a amphibious landing craft carrier as an engineer during WWII. Mr. Culbertson retired from Kendall in 1983.
Survivors include: Two sons and daughter in laws Mack and Lynda Culbertson, Mike and Barbara Culbertson, One sister Bonnie Phillips, Six grand children Dana Peneguy (Kevin), Wesley Culbertson (Tracy), Kim Smith (Kevin), Lisa Wilson (Rodney), Grant Culbertson (Suzanne), Billy Culbertson (Michelle), Thirteen great grand children, One niece Marie Phillips, Two nephews David Phillips (Julie), Mike Phillips (Dawn) and several great nieces and nephews all of Winterville Ga.
The family will receive friends Tuesday May 10, 2011 from 6pm until 8pm at Lord and Stephens East. The funeral service will be held Wednesday May 11, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Lord and Stephens Chapel interment at Arnoldsville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Great Grandsons. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Quiet Oaks Nursing Home. Lord and Stephens East, were in charge of arrangements.
