Louise M. Hamby, age 93, was born in Madison County on September 21, 1920 and passed away on November 4, 2013. She lived in Clarke County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Jabous H. Sorrow and Ina Ward Sorrow, and the widow of Frank N. Hamby. She was the owner/operator of Tiny Tot Nursery which she established over 50 years ago. She loved children of all ages but especially infants and toddlers. When she retired in 1983 after 25 years, she turned the business over to Ann Booth who had worked at the nursery since she was a teen. Ann ran the daycare under the name of Tiny Tot Learning Center on Clover Street, and she continued the same loving care of children for the next 30 years. After Mrs. Hamby retired it was not uncommon for small children to run up to her for a hug as she entered a store or restaurant to the amazement of their parents.
Mrs. Hamby's faith, high standards, and personal integrity ensured her success in all aspects of her life. She loved her family and friends dearly and they will deeply miss her.
She is survived by her daughter Ina H. Miller and son-in-law Claude R. Miller, son John Wayne Hamby, and adopted son/brother Frankie L. Hamby; sister, Mae Jean Bonham of Louise, VA; brother, James H. Sorrow of Watkinsville; plus ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her special friend Kathleen Kinney.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 2pm in the funeral home chapel with graveside services to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Pastor Cecil Holcombe will officiate. Pallbearers will be Claude R. Miller III, Jason Hamby, Scott Wicher, Wesley Garrett, and Andrew Pearson.
