Lois Jean Benjamin Rosenthal

March 2, 1938 — May 2, 2022

Athens

Lois Jean Benjamin Rosenthal, surrounded by her three children, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2022 in Athens, Georgia.

She was born March 2, 1938 and raised in Elyria, Ohio by her mom, Jean Hancock Benjamin, and her grandmother, Lin Hancock.  Her close-knit family including her sister, aunts, uncles, and cousins served as a foundation for the importance she placed on family and friends.  She met the love of her life, Glenn Rosenthal, at a dance her senior year of high school and the twinkle in her eye was always brighter when they were together. They celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage and raised three children: Lori Rosenthal Reeves (Paul) Lilburn, Georgia, Chris Rosenthal (Judy) Chicago, Illinois, and Jeffrey Rosenthal (Michelle) College Park, Georgia.

The key component to Lois’s life fulfilled, was her unconditional love.  Lois loved her family and friends and would do anything to help them. She loved sewing and crafting, putting her talents to use by making things for other people. She not only thought of how she could make others happy, she acted on them, with every interaction being a meaningful one.  You knew Lois loved you, and she loved so many.

Lois went to school at Kent State University before deciding to put her education on hold to support Glenn’s studies at Bowling Green State University. Her work life allowed several schools to benefit from her talents and support in Ohio, Muncie, Indiana and Athens, with her last role as a bookkeeper at Hilsman Middle School where she was loved by everyone she had the opportunity to work with.

A woman of faith, Lois served and was committed to her church and community in many capacities. She was the treasurer for her neighborhood association and served on several committees at Tuckston Methodist Church.

Lois is survived by her sister, Agnes Hicks (Elyria, Ohio), three children, eight grandchildren: David Reeves (Sarah), Kimberly Reeves, Megan Reeves, Colin Rosenthal, Thomas Rosenthal, Steven Rosenthal, Connor Rosenthal, and Bennett Rosenthal and two great granddaughters: Nora and Jocelyn Reeves. She loved each member of her family with all her heart.

A celebration of life will be held at Tuckston United Methodist Church at Noon, Saturday May 7th, 2022, preceded by a private family grave side service.

In lieu of flowers, Lois loved watching the birds from her sunroom, and contributions can be made in honor of her to the National Audubon Society ( https://act.audubon.org/a/memorial-gift?ms=digital-fund-web-website_nas-memorial-howtohelp_20201200 ) or to Hospice Angels Foundation (www.compassuslivingfoundation.org) for the care and comfort they provided Lois and the family.

She will be missed by many!
