July 18, 1938 — January 18, 2021

Athens

Ms. Lois Witcher Ragland, 82, departed this life on January 18, 2021, due to natural non-Covid related causes.

Ms. Ragland was born on July 18, 1938, daughter of the late Frank Witcher, Sr. and the late Julia Dickerson Witcher. Retired from over 30 years of teaching, Ms. Ragland leaves a legacy of a love of learning and reading, infinite patience, limitless kindness and generosity, and unconditional love. Lois possessed a unique strength and stubbornness that saw her through some challenging and difficult times, yet she never lost her generosity of spirit and built a life full of joy surrounded by friends and family.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Alex Ragland and Stephanie Hansen and sons Sam and Ben of Decatur, GA; her daughter Amy Ingalls and son Jack of Athens, GA; her siblings Judy Booth of Colbert, GA, Marty Bridges of Bowman, GA, and Ken Witcher of Clarksville, GA.

A small graveside service, socially distanced and masked, will be held for family and friends on Saturday, January 23 at 2:00 pm at Oconee Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Books for Keeps, a local organization that puts books directly into the hands of the students she loved here in our community.

Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, EAST, is in charge of arrangements.
