Lois Nell (Gurley) Cole

Lois Nell Gurley Cole, age 93, passed away June 17, 2015. The oldest of three children, Lois was born to Vianna Hendrix and William Carl Gurley on August 1, 1921 in Gaddistown, Ga. Following graduation from Young Harris Academy, Lois moved to Atlanta where she met her late husband, Oliver "Tex" Cole. Lois was a master gardener, a marvelous cook, wonderful mother, and greatly enjoyed the friendship of her co-workers and neighbors.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Lyndel) Hurley; grandchildren, Cole and Claire Hurley; sisters, Lynne (Clark) Marvin and Helen Thompson; sister-in-law, Ruth Gurley; niece, Paige Dumiak; nephews, Matthew Stover, Brent Thompson, Wayne Thompson, Roy LaFlamme, Danny LaFlamme, Hal Gurley; and a host of grand-nieces and -nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Harold Gurley.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 from 4-6pm at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home West, 1211 Jimmie Daniel Road, Watkinsville, Ga. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 11:00AM at the City Cemetery, Sterling City, Tx.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the St. Mary's Foundation, Alzheimers & Dementia Project, 1230 Baxter Street, Athens, GA 30606.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at St. Mary's Highland Hills Village for their dedication to and care of Lois and her family.
