Lloyd Bennett Mackey, 78, died September 26, 2006.
Lloyd Mackey was born in Moulton, AL on July 30, 1928 and was raised in Andalusia, AL. He left Alabama to serve in the US Army from 1947-1950, where he served with the occupation forces in Japan immediately after World War II. After 1950 Mr. Mackey moved to Georgia and worked in financial services and retail management. He was very active with VFW Post 2872, joining the Post in 1968. Mr. Mackey served as Post Commander in 1974, District 12 Commander 6 times, and he was appointed a State Officer many times. He was Chairman of the VFW Board of Trustees 4 times and Quartermaster for 25 terms. He also enjoyed Little League Baseball and coached various local teams for over 12 years.
Lloyd Mackey is survived by former spouse, Peggy Justice and her husband, Coley; sons, Clint Sloan and his wife Debbie, Tim Mackey and his wife, Cindy; daughter, Cindy Beth Riddle and her husband, John; 6 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Friday, September 29, 2006, at Lord and Stephens, WEST. Graveside services at Evergreen Memorial Park, 3655 Atlanta Hwy, will follow.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be members of VFW Post 2872.
Family will receive friends Thursday, September 28, 2006 at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
