Linda Jordan Akins, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away June 8, 2021 at the age of 80. Born in Athens, she attended Winterville High School, Athens High School, and the University of Georgia. She loved teaching young people, playing the piano for worship, participating in church mission projects, following the Georgia Gym Dogs, and most of all caring for her family. Mrs. Akins was known to many as a typing and business teacher at Oglethorpe County High School, Oconee County High School, and Athens Christian School. She was devoted to her ACS family and students for 37 years. As a member of East Athens Baptist Church and, previously, Johnson Drive Baptist Church, she served as pianist beginning as a teenager and well into her adult life.
Funeral services are June 12, 2021, 2:00 PM at Lord & Stephens, East Chapel. The family will visit at the funeral home from 1:00 pm to service time. The interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
She is survived by her daughter Frances Akins Colley and her granddaughters, Caroline Frances Colley and Madelyn Ruth Colley of Marietta, her brother Charles V. Jordan, Jr. of Nicholson, and her nephews Charles V. Jordan III (Meg Jordan) of Newnan and Zachary C. Jordan of Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys Frances Jordan and Charles V. Jordan, Sr. of Athens, and her son-in-law Allen “Marc” Reece Colley III.
