Lillie "Jean" Whitfield died of heart failure and went home to be with the Lord on January 21, 2009. She had been a resident of the Heritage Home of Athens since September 2008. Mrs. Whitfield was 77 and would have been 78 in nine days as her birth date was January 30, 1931. She was born in Dougherty, Oklahoma, a daughter of John Alfred and Ida May (McAfee) Shuler.
She spent most of her life living in California. She was very proud of the fact that after being a high school drop out, as an adult, she returned to high school and obtained her GED and then received an AA Degree from Foothill Jr. College in Los Altos, California.
Mrs. Whitfield is survived by her two children Sherry Surra and her husband, Phil, of Statham, Georgia and Larry Whitfield, and his wife, Nancy, of Dadeville, Alabama. She had seven grandchildren, Kari, Eric, Jeff, Russel, Emily, James and Deon. She had two great grandchildren, Hayley Jane and Hannah Grace. She was predeceased by three sisters - Lillie May Shuler of Oklahoma died in infancy, Mary Lynn Hart of Texas and Clara Reed of Louisiana. She is survived by two brothers John Shuler of Florida and Jimmie Shuler of Texas and a sister, Helen Robbins of Iowa.
Mrs. Whitfield will be buried in Dougherty, Oklahoma, next to her mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
