Lewis Thaxton, 87, died June 27, 2012.
A native of Oglethorpe County, he was a son of the late Eddie N. and Lucy Patton Thaxton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Sadie Graham Thaxton; sisters, Eunice Holmes, of Lexington, and Murrell James, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and brother, Charles Thaxton, of Fargo, N.D.
Mr. Thaxton was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the South Pacific during World War II. He owned and operated Thaxton Heating & Air Conditioning for 20 years, and had been a member of Trinity Baptist Church since 1979.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond L. and Kathie Thaxton, of Athens, Byron and Angela Thaxton, of Watkinsville, Greg and Cindy Thaxton, of Bogart, and Travis and Holly Thaxton, of Athens; sister and brother-in-law, Gaynelle and David Norris, of Oakwood; eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 30, at the chapel of Lord & Stephens East, with the Revs. Jerry Price and Tony Smith officiating. Interment will be in Clark Cemetery. Mr. Thaxton's nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
