Athens - LeRoy Bouton Lenox, 89, died July 19, 2005. A native of Trenton, NJ, he was the son of the late Joseph Flanagan and Sadie Bouton Lenox.
Mr. Lenox was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. He was a graduate of Trenton State University, participated in graduate studies at Columbia University and the University of Georgia and attended nursing school at Athens Tech. Mr. Lenox was a professional musician, having written several operettas. Following his retirement as Director of Music for the Township of Livingston, NJ, he and his wife moved to Athens in 1974. He was very active in the community, having served as Board Chairman for Recording for the Blind, volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Athens Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. He served as choir director for Colbert Baptist Church for a number of years and was music director for Danielsville Baptist Church. He was a regular at McDonalds Senior Club. He always made people feel useful and that they were here for a purpose. ìFANTASTIC!î
Memorial services will be Saturday, July 23, 2005 at 10:00 AM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST. Revs. John Reeser and Mike Hudman will officiate.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Carol Bowden Lenox; son, John Bowden Lenox (Kaye) of San Antonio, TX; daughters, Laura Lenox LaFleur of Bishop and Ellen Lenox Smith (Stu) of N. Scituate, RI; Richard Allen LaFleur of Athens; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Athens Regional Medical Center Foundation, Meals on Wheels or Recording for the Blind.
