Lerion Wayne Williams, 71, of Bogart, died April 10, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital of a heart attack.
He was a lifelong resident of this area and was a charter member of New Covenant Worship Center, where he was active until his illness. He was a son of the late James Henry and Bonnie Mae Reidling Williams of Athens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Burrell Williams, a brother, Willard Williams, a sister, Louise Brown and a niece, Jerri Lynn Williams.
He is survived by his soulmate and loving caregiver, Martha Jones; a son, Barry (Renee) Williams; a daughter, Tina (Barry) Savage; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; brother, Dean (Sabra) Williams of Houston, TX; three sisters, Sybil Lenderman and Janie Williams, both of Athens and Dale (Joe) Glawson of Birmingham, AL; two step-pets, Mitzie and Maggie.
Mr. Williams retired from Eli Witt after thirty-seven years and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog Fan and loved the Atlanta Falcons. He enjoyed singing country music and loved karaoke, which he started at the Oconee County Senior Center, where he was a member.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Oconee County Senior Center, 3500B Hog Mtn. Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677 in Wayne's memory. Wayne will be missed by his large family and many friends.
At his request, he will be cremated. A memorial service will be Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
