Leonard Albert Hampton, 89, husband of Doris Perry Hampton for 62 years, died Monday, May 31, 2021. Born in Gainesville, Georgia, he was the son of the late Albert Marshall (A.M.) Hampton and Ellena Gaily Hampton. Leonard served in the US Army’s 34th Infantry Regiment during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church, where he loved serving as a deacon, a Sunday School teacher, and an active soul winner. He received his BS in Forestry from the University of Georgia. Later, he earned his Master’s in Forestry and EdD in Adult Education from North Carolina State University. He retired from the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education after 18 years, and following his retirement, he was self-employed with Leonard A. Hampton Forestry Consultants for 25 years. Survivors in addition to his wife include his daughter: Susan (Bradley) Thompson of Memphis, TN; son: Nathan (Carol) Hampton of Elberton; brother: Comer (Sue Ellen) Hampton of Madison; grandchildren: Austin Hampton and Grant Hampton, Nathan (Bridget) Thompson, Sarah (Mark) Johnson, Stephen Thompson, Hannah (Shane) Mathews, and two great-grandchildren: Levi Mathews and Judah Johnson. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4, 2021, at 3 PM at Lord and Stephens West Chapel. Interment will follow at Jackson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prince Avenue Baptist Church or Homestead Hospice. Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, Watkinsville, is in charge of arrangements.
