Leland Harvey Milton, 63, of Watkinsville, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2019.
Leland served his county in the U.S. Navy and retired from the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. Along with serving as a deputy, he also served as a volunteer firefighter for both Madison and Oconee counties. His passions were for scuba diving and Civil War reenactment, where he acted as Colonel of the Georgia 5th Cavalry division. He was also a member of the KELMAC Horse Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady Wayne McCannon and Sara Ann Epps, as well as an infant son, Thurston Lee Milton, and his grandparents, Thurston Lee and Willie Lee Epps.
Leland is survived by his wife, Peggy Lee Witcher Milton; daughter Brandy (Tova) Harris; and siblings: Dwayne (Crissy) McCannon, Leon (Ashley) McCannon, and Wanda Morgan; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends, especially his devoted friend, Martha Thurmond.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 9, at Lord and Stephens, Danielsville, at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. before the service. Interment will follow at Meadow Baptist Church cemetery.
