Lee Marshall Woolbright Sr

October 10, 1927 — May 30, 2014

Lee Marshall Woolbright Sr., 86, of Bogart, Georgia died Friday, May 30, 2014 after a two year battle with Mulitple Myeloma.
Lee graduated from Abbeville High School in South Carolina and proceeded to serve his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Later he attended and graduated from Erskine College in South Carolina where he earned his teaching degree. While a student at Erskine College, Lee played both football and tennis. Following college, Coach Woolbright began his teaching and coaching career at Starr Iva High School in Starr, South Carolina. He taught 5 years at Starr Iva High School and then went to Hartwell, Georgia where he retired after teaching and coaching for 30 years.
While living in Hartwell, Coach Woolbright was an active member of Hartwell First Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. In addition, Coach Woolbright was a member of the Kiwanis Club where he served on the youth committee. Those who knew Coach, know his commitment to youth was strong and constant and continued even after he retired. He could always be found "teaching" children both in academics, sports and especially in life. He was an avid and accomplished jogger, bicyclist, tennis player and golfer.
In 1998, Coach and Mrs. Woolbright moved to Athens, Georgia. Coach continued his commitment to youth sports, fitness and his love for life. He and Betty became members of the First Baptist Church in Athens.
Coach Woolbright is survived by his beloved wife, Betty, his son, Lee Jr. and Lee Jr.'s wife, Kay. It was obvious to all how much he loved Betty, Lee and Kay, as well as his extended family of students and friends. Coach Woolbright loved life and enjoyed every day.
A memorial to celebrate Lee's life will be at 3 p.m on Monday, June 2, at the First Baptist Church, Athens. Visitation will be at 2 p.m in the Branyon Foyer.
