Lee Willie Norman

Lee Willie (Billy) Norman, 90, of Oglethorpe County, passed away on January 1, 2025, in Athens, GA. Born on November 16, 1934, he was the son of the late Willie Ralph Norman and Xaver Dudley Norman. Throughout his life he was dedicated to his family, his country, and his faith. Lee enjoyed laughing, joking, and spending time with the many friends he made throughout his life.

He was a devoted husband to his wife of 62 years and the love of his life, Claudette, as well as a loving and considerate father to his two sons Adam and Keary. 

A graduate of Arnoldsville High School in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, he joined the United States Army, serving in the Artillery, Medical Corps, and Quartermaster Corps for 40 years before retiring in 1994. He then worked for Sears in Athens, Georgia, retiring again in 2006 after 21 years.

Lee was a dedicated member of Arnoldsville Baptist Church, serving as a deacon for many years. He also served his community as a Scoutmaster and a member of the county Zoning Commission, as well as a member of the Arnoldsville City Council for 40 years where he worked to develop and improve the water system.

In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his sisters, Trudy Jones (Tom), Virginia O’Kelley (Frank), and his brother, Jack Norman. Survivors include his wife, Claudette Adams Norman; children, Adam Norman (Heather), Keary Norman (Katherine); and his two grandchildren, Abbigayle Norman and Mason Norman as well as many other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and family, including sister-in-law Lynda Norman and niece Kathy E. Adams.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens, East, with Larry Davison and Nathan Palmer officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. There will be no interment ceremony.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arnoldsville Baptist Church at 240 Yancey Road, Arnoldsville, GA or the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.
