Laverne Cooper, 86, of Oconee County, entered the gates of heaven on May 12, 2022. He was born in Huntsville, Texas on the Fourth of July 1935 and later moved with his family to Jackson County, Georgia. After serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War, Laverne moved to Oconee County and resided there until his death.
Laverne worked at The Lawn and Garden Shop, and then retired from The University of Georgia as a small engine mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Talmer and Oley Cooper; sisters, Homerzelle Cooper and Jeanette (Roy) Hood; his first wife, Betty Cook Cooper; and son, Mark Cooper.
He is survived by his current wife, Paula Dellinger Cooper; sister Voncille Blackstock; brother Vincent (Mary) Cooper; two daughters, Marie (Mark) Saxon, Marsha (J.D.) Zuber; daughter-in-law Jill Cooper; and stepson Kelley (Paula) Timms. He was also the grandfather of Katie and Brian Cooper, Mack and Mason Saxon, John Zuber, and Gabi and Jake Timms.
Being a true man of God, he believed in honesty, hard work, and reading the Bible. Throughout his life, he attended Mars Hill Baptist Church and was a current member of Calvary Baptist Church in Statham, GA.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11AM at Lord and Stephens West Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity or church.
