Larry Neal Toney, 71, of Athens, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022.
Born May 2, 1950 in Athens to the late Andy Neal Toney and Grace Gable Toney, Larry was a member of the last graduating class of Athens High School in 1970. He retired from Georgia Power after 40 years of service. Larry was an avid Georgia baseball fan, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved his fur babies, Scarlett and Rhett. He was a man of many “families,” and he loved them all: his church family, baseball family, GA Power family, and most of all, his real family, especially his beloved wife of almost 47 years.
Along with his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Teri S. Toney Covington, and infant brother David Toney.
Larry is survived by his wife, Shirley Randolph Toney, daughter Shannon Toney Frye (James) of Rockingham, NC, mother-in-law Olivia Randolph, brother-in-law David Randolph, sister-in-law Barbara Dobbyn (Lee), nephew Jerry Dobbyn, and many other cherished family members.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 3, at Central Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. George Crimmins III officiating. Larry will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.
