Larry Joe “Pop” Sparr, 68, of Bogart, GA, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, Atlanta, GA, surrounded by his loving family.

Pop was born on May 21, 1953 in Cleveland, OH and grew up in Falling Rock, WV.  He graduated from Herbert Hoover High School in 1971. For 10 years he worked as a welder at Union Carbide in Charleston, WV. After moving to Chesapeake, Virginia, he worked at Asphalt Roads & Materials as a superintendent.

Joe married Pat Swiney, the love of his life, on December, 29 1973. The two were each other’s lifelong companion and friend for 48 years. They were blessed with one son, David, who survives.

Pop loved spending time with his family and found many ways in which to do so. He was an accomplished bowler and over the years bowled in many leagues with friends and family.  Pop and David shared a love of bowling and he attended many of David’s tournaments to support him.  Pop loved watching his grandchildren, Skylar and Zach, compete in their various athletic activities.  He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, fishing and playing cornhole as well.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Everett Earl “Bo” Sparr and his grandparents, Altha and Leslie Earl Sparr.  He is survived by his wife, Pat Sparr; his son, David Sparr (Laura), Watkinsville, GA; brothers, Ronnie Sparr (Carol), Lakeland, FL; Everett Sparr (Cindy), Charleston, SC; sister, Patty Hill (Anthony), Scott Depot, WV; his grandchildren, Skylar Farmer (Tyler), Carlton, GA; Zachary Sparr, Watkinsville, GA and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, West, is in charge of arrangements.
