Mr. Larry B. Riley, native of Athens, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Overton Healthcare Center in Overton, Texas. He was born September 11, 1946 to Otis C. and Ruby Mae Riley in Athens, Georgia.
He had lived in Texas for the last five years. He had worked as a Maintenance Technician for Goldkist Poultry in Athens, Georgia for over 30 years until retiring in 2008. He never sat still and was always happily working at his job or helping others. He was an avid fisherman his whole life and dreamed of his next big catch. He always did the best he could for his family. He never stopped loving his wife and chose to remain a widower until they could be together again. His daughter was the apple of his eye and he always praised her to everyone he met. He was friendly so he never met a stranger. He loved to joke and laugh. In the final years of life he traded in his passion for fishing to chase around his one and only grandchild, Thea. He loved her more than life. He was blessed to leave this world loved by all and will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Eleanor Riley, and father, Otis C. Riley.
He is Survived by his mother, Ruby McCune of Tignall, GA; daughter, Angela Higgins and husband Trevin of Kilgore; granddaughter, Thea Higgins; brothers, Joe Riley of Tignall, GA, and Jeff Riley of Athens, GA; sisters, Paulette McDonald of Greenwood, SC, and Angela Riley of San Marcos, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 3:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, East, Athens, GA with Patrick Lacy officiating.
