Larry McDuffie Gill

Larry McDuffie Gill passed away peacefully at his home on December 9, 2024. 

Born in Butler, GA, Larry was raised in Warner Robins, GA and was a proud graduate of The University of Georgia. After raising their children in Jacksonville, FL, Larry and his wife of 57 years, Diane returned to Athens in 2006. Larry was a practicing CPA and business owner. Larry owned Paul Devis Restoration of Northeast Georgia and Mama Jewel’s Kitchen in addition to other ventures while residing in Jacksonville.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Leon “Pete” McDuffie Gill and Doris Watson Gill. Larry leaves behind wife, Linda Diane Smith Gill, children-Kelley Gill Padgitt (Kevin L. Padgitt) and Larry “Duffie” McDuffie Gill, Jr. (Heather Havis Libby) and grandchildren- Kaitlyn Padgitt Lacher (Zachary W. Lacher), Leland McDuffie Padgitt, Libby McDuffie Gill and Levi McDuffie Gill.

While living in Jacksonville, Larry served on the vestry of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and was an active member of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church after moving to Athens. He was active in his community. He was a longtime member and Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International as a member of Rotary Jacksonville Westside, Athens Rotary Club and Oglethorpe Rotary Club, serving as President of the Oglethorpe County Rotary, was a member of the Athens Area Builders Association and served on the Board of Directors for Hope Haven. He made a difference in other’s lives by preparing and serving meals at the Sulzbacher Homeless Shelter, donating blood to the Northeast Florida Blood Bank and the American Red Cross often and serving as a bell ringer for The Salvation Army.

Services will be held at St. Stephen’s Anglican Catholic Church on Thursday, December 12 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow.
