Laquita Joyce Parham Bridges, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2024. She was 91 years old.
A lifelong resident of Comer, she was a daughter of the late William Claud Parham and Nora Lucille Beusse Parham. Mrs. Bridges graduated from Comer High School in 1950. She always worked in Comer. She worked at Blue Bell sewing plant, clerk at Dixie Feed and Seed, City of Comer clerk, and finally worked as a clerk for the Comer Post Office before she retired as the postmaster there.
She was a member of Comer Baptist church, Comer Historical Society, and was a former president of the Comer Women’s Club. She served on the Comer City Council many years. Mrs. Bridges adored her cats and dogs and thrived on time spent with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, John Calvin Bridges and three brothers, Gene Parham, Joe Parham and Clint Parham.
Survivors include her children, Johnny Bridges (Deborah), Nita Ownbey (Roger) and Stacy Bridges (Camille); seven grandchildren, Shane Bridges, Matt Bridges, Chad Ownbey, Brandon Ownbey, Brianna Robinson, Megan Velasquez and Sydney Bridges; eight great-grandchildren, a brother Larry Parham (Dianne) and a sister Kathryn Tolbert, along with several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Comer Memorial Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of The Hampton House in Colbert and Gentiva Hospice for the compassionate care provided to Mrs. Bridges.
