Kermit Gipson

April 23, 1944 — March 9, 2015

Kermit Melborne Gipson, 70, of Athens, died March 9, 2015.
He was born in Commerce, Georgia. His parents were the late Virgil Howard and Bert Suggs Gipson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Paul Gipson and his nephew, David Sprinkles.
Kermit had a 44 year career in automotive sales, most recently with Landmark Dodge, Athens. In addition, he worked for Phil Cook Motors in Madison and had a 30 year career with Heyward Allen Motor Company. He was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. Kermit loved to play golf, ride horses, and spend time with family. Kermit had a quick wit and genuine love of people. He had a long battle with metastatic melanoma cancer. Through his journey with cancer, his determination and will to live was an inspiration to all. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Marib H. Gipson; children, Robert Michael "Bobby" Gipson (Kate) of Athens and Lisa Gipson Jarvis (Jeremy) of Cleveland, TN; sister, Annette Sprinkles of Nicholson; grandchildren, Conner Michael Gipson, Tyler, Gabrielle, Joseph and Lexi Jarvis; niece, Brenda Pettus (Jerry) of Nicholson and several other nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, March 13, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST with Rev. Steve Bingham officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be: John Brennan, Jimmy Byrd, Matt Clark, Larry Paul, Karl Rittenberry, and Jerome Martin.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Ted Adams, Buddy Allen, Paul Brown, Bill Callaway, Paul Chesser, Bobby Crawford, Jimmy Flanagan, Rusty Ingram, Darrell Kennedy, Larry Pinkus, Ronnie Tucker, Joe Turnell, and Stanley Williams.
