Kay Waters died peacefully on Monday February 28 at Presbyterian Village in Athens. Born in Pensacola, Florida, Kay graduated from Columbus High School and earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Georgia. Kay spent over 30 years as a math teacher throughout the state, retiring from Cedar Shoals in 2006. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mildred Herrington, and her brothers Tom Herrington and David Herrington.
She was known for her kindness to others and loved her family and friends. Kay especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her sons Boyd (Leila) of Los Alamos, NM; David (Sophia) of Athens; Andy (Brandi) of Augusta, GA; and daughter Elizabeth (Mike) of Johnson City, TN. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Cameron and Alexander Waters, Catharine and Thomas Waters, Ella and Lucy Casto-Waters, and John and Will Davenport. Visitation will be at Lord and Stephens West on Thursday March 3 from 6:00-8:00. A Memorial Service will be held at Presbyterian Village of Athens on March 4 at 3:00 pm. The Rev. Sue Jacobson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Athens.
The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the amazing teams at The Orchard, St. Mary’s NCCU team, Kindred Hospice, and Presbyterian Village of Athens for the outstanding care they provided to our mother.
