Kathleen Bush “Kathie” Logan died peacefully on June 14, 2024 after a years-long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born and raised in Riverside, Jacksonville, Florida, and always a “Florida Girl” at heart, Kathie had a lifelong love of the ocean and the beach and spent much of her youth on or around the water through family trips to the beach, her participation in the Girl Scouts and lifeguarding. Later in life, her passions included reading mystery novels, cheering for her Atlanta Braves, and caring for her adopted cats.
Kathie was a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Jacksonville and after graduating from Lee High School, she attended Auburn University, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and met her husband, Bruce. After college, they raised their family in Charlotte, N.C. and later, Marietta, Ga. During her time in Charlotte, Kathie established herself as a talented seamstress and a custom made, smocked child’s jumper or dress that was “Handmade by Kathie Logan” became a sought after, treasured keepsake for many Charlottean families. While in Marietta, she continued her higher education and earned a Master’s Degree in Education and a Specialist in Gifted Education Certification from Kennesaw State University and a Special Education Certification from Emory University. She cherished her career as an educator and was most proud of her work and impact as a middle school teacher at Marietta Middle School, where she taught gifted English and Social Studies for many years. In her later years, Kathie lived in Athens, Ga., where she was a dedicated patron and supporter of the Town & Gown Players and the Athens Area Humane Society.
Kathie was preceded in death by her parents, Coy F. and Bernice W. Bush, and is survived by her younger sister, Diane; husband Bruce Wayne Logan; son Jonathan Blair Logan and his wife Emily Sanders Logan; daughter Cameron Logan Milligan and her husband Justin Lamar Milligan; and grandson Connor Gunnin Logan.
The family would like to express our deep gratitude to the entire staff of St. Mary’s Highland Hills Village Memory Care for their compassion, grace and professionalism these last two and a half years.
A small, private memorial is planned for family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Athens Area Humane Society.
