Katherine Christina May VanDover Lindsey, 82, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2020.
This generous, strong, beloved woman was born in Valley Park, MO to James and Ruth VanDover. She was one of 12 children and cherished her siblings throughout her life. She fell in love with Norman Lindsey, whom she had known since they were kids and after a two-week courtship, married him and moved to Orange County, California. The couple had two sons, and together they followed Norman’s work to Conyers, Georgia, Puerto Rico and finally Watkinsville, Georgia.
Katherine and Norman became owners of several Midas Muffler shops around the Southeast, and relocated to Fairfax, Virginia where they remained for many years. Longing to be closer to family, the couple returned to Georgia, where Katherine devoted herself to the care of her grandchildren. Aside from her love of family, Katherine was an avid animal lover, with a special fondness for horses. She often reminisced about her teenage years, barrel racing with her horse, Red Rock, at the Valley Mountain Ranch in St. Louis County. In her later years, she lived on a farm, happily surrounded by her animals and grandchildren.
She is survived by her two sons, Lindsey Alan Lindsey of Decatur, Lincoln A. Lindsey (Catherine) of Comer; grandchildren Sally, Oliver, Danny, Leslie and Claire; six great-grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Weisenburg. There will be no memorial service. Katherine always believed in the power of giving, and regularly donated and supported charities of all kinds. In her honor and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation or Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta .
