Karen (Schultz) McClure

June 26, 1954 — April 1, 2023

Karen Schultz McClure, 68, of Athens, Georgia, went to be with her Creator and Savior on April 1, 2023 after a long fought battle with FTD Dementia and is now restored and reunited with her husband, Dan. “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12 She was born to Virginia Harris Schultz (of Athens, GA) and Clarence Roland Schultz (of Anniston, AL), on June 26, 1954 in Athens, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan McClure and parents, Virginia and Clarence Schultz. She is survived by her sister Harriett Schultz Grant (husband Gordon). She has been loved and supported by her children: Ian McClure (wife Lauren and children Ava, Emma); Lauren McClure Forrester (husband Todd and children London, Lincoln); Matt McClure (wife Gabriella and son Max); Tyler (wife Jessica and children Hudson, Miller Jo). Karen was a member of Beech Haven Baptist Church growing up and a graduate of Athens High School Class of '71. Karen married Dan on January 12, 1974 and they resided in Athens. She enjoyed being a travel agent in her early years. She spent most of her adult life raising their four children, helping Dan build their small business, McClure Studio in Athens and later two Zaxby's Restaurants in Gwinnett County. Dan and Karen helped to plant or grow several churches/ministries over the years including Living Faith Fellowship, Women's Aglow, Shekinah Glory Women's Ministry and Grace Fellowship Church. They were both strong in their faith and helped spread the love of Jesus with kindness and charisma! Known to her grandkids, as "Mama K", she loved any chance to play and cuddle with them. Karen also enjoyed dining out (she used it as a ministry), game nights with friends, traveling the country and abroad with family and friends, and helping others. She was well loved and cared for during her last two years of life at Arbor Terrace of Athens. Karen was a beautiful light for Jesus to so many throughout her years and continued to minister to people even in the late stages of dementia. She was loved and supported by so many amazing people throughout Athens and surrounding areas. Karen's Life Celebration for all will be held Saturday, April 15 at 4:00pm at Grace Fellowship Church in Watkinsville, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support research for Frontotemporal Dementia, an important mission to help find a cure for the specific dementia that has so greatly affected Karen and other family members. Please reference "In Memory of Karen Schultz McClure for FTD Research" on either method. Online at Emory.edu/give or by mail to: FTD research by Emory at Office of Gift Records 1762 Clifton Rd NE, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30322. Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, Watkinsville, GA is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
