Hull - Julius William Carithers, 79, of Hull, Ga., passed away November 16, 2008, following an illness with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Elsie Burdick Carithers.
Mr. Carithers was the son of the late Jasper A. Carithers and Annie Miller Carithers of Kannapolis, N.C. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Bakos and a brother, Aubrey Carithers of Merritt Island, Fla.
Mr. Carithers was born Jan. 4, 1929 in Kannapolis, N.C. He lived in Milford, Conn. for 28 years and was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, Airman Aviation Ordinance. He was a foreman at the Locke Steel Chain & Cable Co. and attended Yale University-In-training Police School. He served 12 years as a police officer in Milford, Conn. Returning south in 1967, he was employed by the University of Georgia in the Food Science Department, retiring after 20 years.
Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of 58 years include his two beloved children: a daughter, Collette E. Carithers; a son, Mark W. Carithers; and grandson, Shawn P. Patton.
His wish was to be cremated. A memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Josephís Catholic Church on November 23, 2008 at the 10 a.m. Mass.
