Indianapolis, IN - Julia Hurt Satterwhite, Ph.D., 51, went peacefully to be with her heavenly Father on December 11, 2012. She was in her home surrounded by loved ones. She was a special blessing to all those who knew her, and made a lasting impression on all whose lives she touched. Dr. Satterwhite was born in Kennett, Missouri, the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Louis G. Satterwhite, of Athens, Georgia. After living for many years in Rogers, Arkansas, her family moved to Georgia in 1978. Julie attended the University of Georgia and received her B.S. in Microbiology in 1985 and her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics in 1990. Her passion was pharmaceutical research and she joined Eli Lilly and Co. in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1990, working as an outstanding PKPD scientist. She spent her 22 years at Lilly developing medicines for patients in the areas of bone, auto-immune, obesity, and Alzheimer's diseases. She twice received the prestigious Lilly Research Laboratory President's Award for the recognition of her significant scientific achievement in advancing the development of new medicines. She most recently held a position as a Research Fellow in TOX/ADME/PKPD. Dr. Satterwhite has authored/co-authored 19 manuscripts in peer reviewed scientific journals and 5 book chapters, and was a member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT), American Society for Bone Mineral Research (ASBMR), North American Association for the Study of Obesity (NAASO), and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, in Indiana University, School of Medicine. Dr. Satterwhite was an active member of Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Indianapolis for 21 years. Survivors include her mother and father; sister Lee Ann (Mike) Spradlin of Cordova, TN; sister Elizabeth (Tony) Cruz of Athens, GA; brother J.D. Satterwhite of Atlanta, GA; and nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved, Lauren Cruz, Sarah-Jane Cruz, Andrew Cruz, David Spradlin, Thomas Spradlin, and Laura Spradlin.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2012 beginning at 6:00 PM at Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 16, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 PM. Julie requested that memorial donations be made to Colonial Hills Baptist Church or to the Satterwhite Scholarship Fund she established at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, 2095 Appling Road, Cordova, TN 38016.
