Julie Elizabeth (Lowery) Cannon

Julie Lowrey Cannon, 50, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at her residence.
A native of Knoxville, TN, she was the daughter of Robert S. and Gloria Lewis Lowrey. Julie received her BA in Journalism from the University of Georgia and was a member of Watkinsville First United Methodist Church. Her career as a writer began when she entered a contest with the Flagpole which lead to her first book, Truelove & Homegrown Tomatoes. Since then she has written six additional books, one of which has yet to be published.
God makes each of us different and unique, and those whom He gifts to be authors are no exception. There are all kinds in this old world. But the best authors are those, like Julie, who have a unique ability to stir the heart, touch the soul and soothe the spirit. Such authors are indeed rare.
We have been blessed in this life to have lived among such an author. Her ability to craft words which express the innermost depths of the soul is unmatched, and her books will nourish the hearts of many for years to come. It is an amazing thing to be loved by someone, and Julie loved us through her writing which was described as "Southern Fried Food For the Soul".
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband: Philip Thomas Cannon of Watkinsville; children: Iris (Mac) Cannon Wallace of Athens, Gus Cannon and Sam Cannon of Watkinsville; brothers: Rob Lowrey of LaGrange, Philip (Sonja) Lowrey of Athens and Paul Lowrey of Missoula, MT and a niece Lanier Lowrey of Athens.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 4PM at Watkinsville First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:30 in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Watkinsville First United Methodist Church or the Samaritans Purse.
