Colbert-Julian Gurley, 97, husband of the late Margaret Brooks Gurley, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009.
Born in Ila, GA, he was the son of the late Tom and Betsey Scarborough Gurley. Julian was a Carpenter by trade and retired from Benson Bakery. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include five sons: James, Frank, Howard, Denver and Tommy Gurley; eleven daughters: Mildred Miller, Dorothy Patton, Marjorie Williams, Sara Coker, Etta Gurley, Mary Hawkes, Hazel Bridges, Lunice Waggoner, Marie Gee, Shirley Smith, Barbara Gurley; sisters: Katherine McMann, Christine Malcolm; 45 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 17, 2009 at 2PM at Word of Life Church with Rev. Rufus Miller and Rev. Herman Nation officiating. Burial will be held at Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James, Frank, Howard, Tommy and Denver Gurley, Dennis Bridges, Thomas Hawkes and Steve Waggoner. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Williams and Rufus Miller.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 16, 2009 from 6 to 8.
Flowers will be accepted.
