Our beloved mother, Judith Corne Thurston, 81, of Athens, Georgia, formerly of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 4, 2021. Born on December 16, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Troy Pounder Corne and Foster McMahan Corne. Judy was a Charlotte native, graduate of East Mecklenburg High School (57’) and charter member of Providence Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Walker Thurston and her eldest son, Troy Walker Thurston. A beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, Judy was affectionately known as “Muchie” by her grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, John Corne (Sherleen) of Raleigh, NC; loving children, Jill Thurston (Bonnie), John Thurston (Julie Ann) and April T. Burel (Brad); daughter-in-law, Julie Rizzi (Vince); granddaughter, Rebekah Stevens; grandsons, Troy W. Thurston, Jr. (Abby), Coleman Thurston, Jack Stevens, Marshall Thurston, Foster Thurston and Michael Thurston; great grand-children Emory and Hunter Thurston.
Judy was a nurturing homemaker who put the needs of others before her own. She raised four children and was always present for the most important moments of her children’s lives. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. Loved and adored by many, she will forever be in our hearts. The family would like to personally thank the Caregivers of Athens for providing such excellent care.
