Juanita C. Scarborough, 90, of Hull, GA, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family and caregivers on December 13, 2011. She died of congested heart failure, after being in declining health from a massive stoke of 17 years. She was born in Madison County, GA on January 22, 1921, the daughter of Hubert M. and Leta Mae Carey.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who cared for everyone with much compassion. She lived most of her life in Athens, GA, returning to Madison County the later years. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was an excellent cook and expert seamstress.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Harry Taylor Scarborough; a great-grandson, Griffin Segars; two sisters, Blanche Carey and Bernice Carey Ingram; brother-in-law, Clifford Ingram; and three brothers, Weyman Carey, Bud Carey, and Calvin Carey.
Survivors include her daughter, LaVerne Scarborough Peck (J.A.), Athens, GA; Son, Jerry Taylor Scarborough (Barbara), Cumming, GA; sister, Glenda Carey Nicholson (Thomas), Hull, GA; four grandchildren, Kimberly Peck O'Hara (Andy), Charlotte, NC; Joseph Keith Peck (Carol), Denver, CO; Mark Taylor Scarborough (Kris) Cleveland, TN; and Lorie Scarborough Segars (Shane), Winder, GA; seven great-grandchildren, Maddie, McKenzie, and Mitch O'Hara; Colton and Owen Segars; Bailey Scarborough and Austin Stott. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Odyssey Health Care for their care and support. Also special thanks goes to her caregivers, Brenda Tarver, Kathy Reese, and Angela Wynn, who loved and cared for her with much compassion to the very end.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be Friday evening, December 16, 2011, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
