Joyce R Smith

Joyce Robertson Smith, 89, passed away Monday August 16, 2021 at Arbor Terrace of Athens.

Joyce was born in Walden, GA, and grew up in Fort Valley, GA. She graduated from Fort Valley High School in 1948 and was class valedictorian. She was a former resident of Atlanta, and most recently, Saint Marys, GA, where she was a longtime member of Saint Marys United Methodist Church.

Joyce worked for the US Navy, was a homemaker while raising her children, and then worked for the CDC for 25 years. She loved to travel, visiting all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, England, Scotland, Europe, and the Panama Canal.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert L. Smith, in 2011. She is survived by two children, Kevin Smith (Carla) of Marietta, GA, Allison Warbington (Ken) of Social Circle, GA; granddaughter Michelle Azotea (Chuck) and great-grandson, Charlie Azotea of Severna Park, MD.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Arbor Terrace of Athens for the wonderful care they provided during her time there, as well as the staff from Agape Hospice. Also, many thanks to her friends and neighbors in Osprey Cove for their love and support.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
