Joyce Phillips Hendrix, age 99, wife of the late George Wesley Hendrix, passed away on May 28, 2024. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on September 10, 1924 to Raymond Turnell Phillips and Ruby Kimbell Phillips. She was a graduate of Commercial High School in Atlanta and later employed at Aetna Insurance Company; after she became a mother, she was a full-time homemaker. Joyce and George were longtime residents of Sandy Springs and Dunwoody, Georgia. They were members of First Baptist Church of Sandy Springs and Dunwoody Baptist Church. At FBCSS, Joyce taught children in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, was active in the Women’s Missionary Union, and she and George were members of the Berean Sunday School class. At Dunwoody Baptist, Joyce and George sang in the choir and were members of The Samaritans Sunday School class.
Survivors include one son: Bryan Hendrix (Jean); grandchildren: Wes (Caitlyn) Hendrix and Walker Hendrix.
Joyce was grateful for the many friends who stayed in touch with her after she and George moved to Athens. The family would like to express their gratitude to her many caregivers over the past few years, especially Debbie, Patricia, Cheryl, Ginger, and Missy. They loved and cared for Joyce as if she were their own grandmother. The family also wishes to thank the staff at the Orchard of Athens as well as Family Hospice for their loving care.
A memorial service for both Joyce and George will begin at 3:00 pm on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Sandy Springs Chapel. The family will receive family and friends before the service at 2:00 pm and following the service.
